Director, IT Strategic Initiatives - Development of University strategic technology plans leading to ECU participation in local, statewide, and national IT initiatives including Supercomputing Conferences, University Consortium for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID) activities, Coalition for Academic Scientific Computation (CASC) and NCSA Alliance relations, creating partnerships to respond to external funding opportunities, and forming relationships between ECU and educational, governmental, and commercial institutions for mutual benefit. Additional responsibilities include peer review allocation responsibilities involving high performance computing resources, managing High Performance Computing (HPC) resources on campus, instituting next generation strategic initiatives in data mining/data warehousing on HPC resources, developing a fully immersed virtual reality initiative, strategic planning and serving as advisory committee member of the Center for Interdisciplinary Instructional Technology Research, and maintaining the primary University web pages in support of web related marketing efforts.
Represented the State of North Carolina and East Carolina University by sponsoring research exhibits during SC 98 and SC 99; is a co-PI on $341,000 grant to NSF (CISE/ANIR) for a high speed network connection to the North Carolina Research and Education Network; is a co-PI on a $1,130,503 grant to NSF (ESIE/TEP) for developing a National Computational Science Education Consortium involving Teacher Enhancement; successfully developed a proposal enabling ECU to join UCAID and CASC as institutional members; co-authored a proposal leading to ECU affiliation with NCSA as a affiliate member; serves as one of the key project coordinators on an initiative to develop a planetarium/virtual reality done/science center in eastern NC; assistant Project Director for Education Participant Program at SC2000 and SC2001; involved with Summer Institute planning and logistics for High Performance Computing training sessions at the University of Alabama, Huntsville; and Video Conference Coordinator for High Performance Computing teleconferences between senior scientists and high school teachers participating in an HPC Teacher Enhancement Program.

Director, Academic Computing/Information Technology Consulting - Coordinate an annual: (1) $1.1M Academic Computing budget (including fixed personnel costs) which includes supervising the expenditure of funding for information technology and university academic use; (2) $900K Student Computing and Technology fee budget including supervising the expenditures for information technology and university academic use; (3) $600K Faculty Workstation Program which reviews, procures, and awards personal computing equipment to East Carolina University faculty on a three year rotating refreshment cycle.
Coordinate a $300K Multimedia Instructional Initiative Project which provided selected East Carolina University faculty with high end computing resources for the purpose of integrating instructional technology into the classroom.
Coordinate the development of computing resource seminars, workshops, and classes necessary to train faculty, staff, and students in the use of university information technology including the Internet/Information Super Highway, integration of instructional technology into curriculum, personal/office productivity, and research.
Direct and supervise an Academic Computing & Microcomputing Services consultant staff of forty-nine academic consulting specialists and student assistants. Collectively, the Academic Computing & Microcomputing Services unit is responsible for all university-related academic computing functions including the management of more than thirty-five computing labs at various locations across campus.
Coordinate with the Vice Chancellors' of Administration and Finance, Academic Affairs, and the CIO acting as a liaison between the academic deans, department chairs, and faculty in developing strategic plans involving technological priorities, funding and acquisition plans, and the infusion of technology into the university curriculum.
Serve as a member of university information technology and strategic planning committees including the Chancellor's Information Resources Coordinating Council, Student Computing and Technology Fee, and Faculty Senate Faculty Computer Committee.
Coordinate the implementation of new university strategic initiatives involving the integration of information technology within the university as exemplified by the Academic Computing Faculty Computing Support Center, Statistical Consulting Laboratory, Multimedia Instruction Initiative projects, Workstation Support Initiative, University Help Desk Initiative, and client-server based University-wide electronic mail.
Coordinated the provision of: (1) all hardware and applications software support for University workstations and personal computers; (2) academic research and statistical large dataset storage and analytical applications software consulting; (3) the provision of University-wide electronic mail (with the exception of the School of Medicine), intranet, and internet services.
Develope new initiatives with other educational institutions, vendors, and private agencies in a way that maximizes the academic resource potential of the university and fiber optic network. Designed goals are to bring prestige and increased university recognition through innovative external partnerships/relationships, grants, publications, and donations.
