Director, Volunteer Services - Manage a department staff of nine that provide administrative support to the Computer Society's 200 chapters, 130 or more sponsored and cosponsored conference, educational activities, 200 standards workshop groups, and over 35 technical committees and task forces.
Principal contact with the volunteer Vice Presidents for Conferences, Educational Activities, Chapter Activities, Standards, and Technical Activities. Provide support for the society's President, Board of Governors, Executive Committee, and other society officers. Assist vice presidents in the development and implementation of new products and services. Recommend modifications to policy or programs when necessary.
Report on the finances of all conferences, working groups, and technical committees to the respective vice presidents and them society's treasurer. Review annual budget input for the $8.16 M conference budget and budgets for standards and technical activities.
Negotiate as necessary, and review all hotel, exhibition, and other meeting service contracts. Sign contracts as designated by the executive director.
Act as the primary staff contact for the societys two largest conferences, SC, with attendance of more than 5,000, and the International Test Conference with attendance of approximately 4,000. Work with the committee to select meeting site, negotiate and sign contracts, review budgets, and submit funding proposals. Serve as liaison between the committee and the society sponsors for policy and procedural issues.
Principal staff support for the Computer Society International Design Competition.Assist chair with the development and implementation of the new program including submission of funding proposals, drafting of policies and procedures, and arrangements.
Develop certification program for software engineers. Work with consultants, volunteer committees, and staff on job analysis and test development. Analyze market research to develop marketing plan for exam and support materials.
Serve on Chair society's staff Marketing Coordination Committee. Work with staff from other departments to coordinate marketing activities and develop ideas for joint marketing efforts.
Serve as a contact with IEEE and outside organizations in matters of conferences, education, standards, technical activities, and other joint activities.
IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY 1988-1994

Director, Conferences and Tutorials - Senior staff position in volunteer association of professional engineers. Oversaw 60-80 volunteer-run conferences and represented the association in volunteer interactions. Responsible for conference budget review and finances. Reviewed and signed hotel, facility, and vendor contracts. Managed staff of 6 who provide publicity, registration and financial services to conferences.
