Fred Clare and Mary Haley of SCD's Visualization and Enabling Technologies Section demonstrate some of the exciting capabilities of PyNGL, the new Python interface to the NCL graphics library. In this visualization, a wealth of information about wind direction, speed, and temperature is seen at a glance through the use of "curly vectors" (finite-length streamlines) plotted over a map. The direction of the vectors indicates wind direction, length indicates windspeed, while color indicates temperature, corresponding to the label-bar at the bottom of the visualization.
