Spring comes to the Tree Plaza at NCAR's Mesa Laboratory. Photo: Lynda Lester, NCAR/SCD |
Nice weatherAt sunset on a pleasant evening (06 May 2004) in Boulder, Colorado, recessed lights on NCAR's Mesa Lab Tree Plaza shine on trees leafing out for spring. Scientists and educators interested in forecast model predictions and weather conditions for that day can retrieve the data from archives maintained by SCD. In what has proved to be a popular service since its inception in January
2004, SCD is maintaining permanent backups of selected subsets from Unidata's
Internet Data Distribution (IDD) system, which delivers about 50 gigabytes
of meteorological data per day to more than 130 universities. Important subsets of IDD data are now completely archived on NCAR's Mass Storage System, and three months' worth of the most recent data is available via two websites: one for gridded model data and one for global observational data. For a full story, see "SCD offers archives of Unidata's IDD data." |
