NCAR Mesa Lab protected against power outages

A new standby generator system went online at NCAR's Mesa Laboratory on 6 March 2004. At the heart of the system, twin generators will provide unlimited emergency power to the NCAR Computer Room and the Mesa Lab's life-safety systems in case of electrical outages.

The generators are powered by California emissions-rated diesel engines that burn far cleaner than natural gas and are extremely quiet.

For a full story on the generators project, which was implemented by the Scientific Computing Division in cooperation with NCAR's Physical Plant Services, see "NCAR Mesa Lab gets two standby power generators."
