Offloading new IBM equipment

by Lynda Lester

On Friday, 5 October 2001, NCAR took delivery of equipment for phase I of a new Advanced Research Computing System (ARCS) that will more than double the raw compute power at NCAR, from 1.0 teraflops to 2.1 teraflops. These photos capture the intensity of the delivery, as more than 20 tons of equipment and 13 new IBM SP computers were unloaded from a semi trailer, transported through the halls, and reached their final destination: the NCAR Computer Room.
