NCAR Network Data Toolkit
Overview
The NCAR Network Data Toolkit, or NND, is a set of tools used to
access data about the NCAR network. In it's initial form, it is
simply a lightweigh Perl module which provides information about
the VLANs and network ranges in use in the NCAR network. The
information is obtained from a simple text file. Over time, the
NND module should expand to include more functionality. Also, it
is hoped that it will eventually access a database backend, rather
than a simple text file.
The original problem which NND solves is helping to maintain
documentation of the various VLANs in use, and how they relate
to IP networks. To solve this, it reads a master data file which
contains descriptions of all VLANs and IP subnets which have been
set allocated. From this data, it can produce various output files
including Unix /etc/network files and HTML tables listing VLANs
or networks. NND is also used by the config-checker scripts to
verify that the VLANs configured into the Catalysts match the
documented VLANs.
