Speed up your web access!
On October 14, 1997, SCD implemented a web cache that uses the
Squid proxy server. This allows UCAR users (i.e. those whose computer
names end in .ucar.edu) to speed up their web access to outside
sites (those not ending in .ucar.edu).
To get these speedups, you need to modify a setting in your web
browser. The following instructions specify how to do this for several
common web browsers.
We recommend that all UCAR users take advantage of the new web cache.
And the more people that use the web cache, the more noticeable the
speedup will be!

Procedures for other browsers may vary. If your browser doesn't support
Netscape's "Automatic Proxy Configuration," you can still use the web cache
if your browser lets you set up a "Manual proxy configuration." The
information you will need to supply is:
Protocol: http
Host: webcache.ucar.edu
Port: 3128
