Analysis Environment Project
Overview:

CISL's Data Analysis Services Group (DASG) was established in 2004 in
recognition of the growing needs of the NCAR Data Analysis community.
The mission of the new group is to:
Enhance scientific workflow by providing the research community with
a highly advanced computing environment tailored toward the specialized
needs of interactive data post-processing, analysis and visualization.
The Analysis Environment Project (AEP) represents a significant step
towards the realization of this mission, addressing several key
components in moving us towards a high-performance analysis environment,
on par with NCARs renowned supercomputing capabilities. The project
begins with conducting the research necessary to define the architecture
for a new analysis environment. The next step is the installation of a
test bed and subsequent analysis of test results. The project ends with
recommendations for a production environment, an implementation plan, and
the installation of new resources.
It is important to realize that the computational needs for data analysis
are in general very different from those of batch computing. To build a
successful analysis environment for the future, the project team will
need to develop new methods of measuring performance and accounting for
usage of these resources.
