User access
Lightning has two login nodes for interactive use. Interactive
computing on lightning is similar to working in any other UNIX
environment.
After logging in to lightning, you can compile and run small
jobs on the interactive node that you are logged in to.
Load Sharing Facility (LSF) from Platform Computing provides
batch job management to lightning. For information about using LSF
to submit jobs, see
Batch job
submittal in this document.
For information about queues and charging for batch jobs, see
Queues and charging
for resource usage on lightning.
An introduction to using LSF appears in the
LSF for Users seminar
materials (PowerPoint slides).
To expedite turnaround in the batch queues, please specify a
time limit for your job that is smaller that the default maximum
time limit if possible.
Time limits apply to the lightning queues. These are specified at
Queues for
batch jobs on lightning. You may pre-arrange longer wallclock
limits by contacting CISL Consulting Services
(consult1@ucar.edu,
303-497-1278) and explaining your need, including the desired
wallclock limit and the calendar interval for which you need it.
