blackforest upgrade -- May 2000

Hotwiring blackforest

BlackforestOn 5 May 2000, a team of IBM and SCD hardware and software engineers upgraded the IBM SP RS/6000, blackforest, replacing Winterhawk I nodes with Winterhawk II nodes. The new nodes feature faster processors (375 MHz versus 200 MHz) and double the number of processors (four per node) and the memory (two gigabytes per node). 528 processors are now available (132 batch compute nodes), for an aggregate peak compute power of 792 Gflops.
