Previous Meeting's Minutes - Approved

Project / Action Item List

  • Active Directory - Wendy D.
    • All divisions can access the U drive on CIT.
    • Vista will be released in November. Domain support needs to be discussed and defined.
    • The newest version of Internet Explorer, IE7, is also being released soon. ACD will support Vista/Office2007 in April per Tim. Other divisions have played with the products but are not ready to provide support. RAL guesses it will be at least April before they can provide support. Once Wendy gets the Vista CD it will be put on the U drive and announced for testing, will not be supported until April.
    • The XP service pak 3 was supposed to release next month but has been delayed for an entire year.
    • XML query for service pak is available. XP service pak 1 will not be supported as of Oct 10th. Check your systems to make sure there are no service pak 1's out there.
    • Markus asked if Microsoft has provided a road map for active directory. Will it go into the land of identity service? It has a lot of the features we want, unfortunately we want it to be modifiable. it has the capability to do a lot of what we were looking for, but if we adjust the application to suit our needs the upgrades may become a problem. May look at using it with what it has and not look at changing it.
    • IE7 will be released to WSUS early next month, but will not be approved on the WSUS server until divisions are ready. Security thinks that since some security protection has been built in it may be better, but has not seen or tested it. Wendy mentioned that only 2 or 3 three groups have testers (FA DPC,) on the WSUS server and suggests adding more users for testing. Propose launch date of November 14th for testing, and possible push to users on November 28th, at the earliest.
    • Release XP wireless will have another update next month. The update has additional group policies, and it changes something in the way Windows parks its wireless client. The goal is to make the connection more secure. Please take a look at this if you are part of the test group.
    • Tim Frederick mentioned the upcoming release of MS Office 2007, and how it uses a new xml file format. Will we want to upgrade to their format or do we want to play with plugins so we can read the new file format? The group suggested that this be added to the same schedule as Vista. Will Open Office be affected?
    • February agenda item, discuss Vista and MS Office 2007.
    • Plugins for Office may be available for XP and 2000 versions.
    • MS2007 general question; how many users do we have using Open Office or another system for document exchanges? Should we suggest that until Open Office can open files we do not go to this new format? ACCIS needs to address this. How will this affect Mac's? We may be able to offer it on a terminal server for access, may be a solution to get both formats.
  • Calendaring - Wendy D.
    • Meeting Maker has discontinued Meeting Maker Mobile and replaced it with Meeting Maker Notify. This new product has not been tested yet, since testing on Meeting Maker Mobile was being done. Supports more handheld devices. No timeline available. An upgrade to support time changes will be coming out in the next couple of months.
  • Central Authentication -Lynda M .
    • No update.
    • Recovering from the ML powerdown.
  • Computer Room - Pat W.
    • The strategic plan is moving forward. The document should be finished next month or December.
    • Costs for FL0 and FL2 computer room space are out, Pat will send the information out in the next day or so. A request form for space in the rooms will be included.
  • Electronic Mail -Markus
    • No update
    • Ed has been involved in the teragrid and has not had much time to spend on this.
  • Directory services-Jim
    • At the ITC meeting it was mentioned the Directory Services project does not have the resources to continue. The ITC recommends it be completed. A story needs to be presented to upper management so they see the issues and why this project is needed. Katy is going to mention it at the President's Council and see what response she gets. A clear presentation detailing scope, project plan, cost, and what the architectural choices are and the costs for each should be put together.
    • WIKI changes; should the current wiki be used or wait for the newer version? Don't wait, use what is there.
  • FTP - Jim V .
    • Still being closed out.
  • Software Management - Pat W.
    • The corporate wide software vendor may be selected this morning. Contracts will then send notification regarding the vendor, along with a purchasing plan and training information. No launch date or cycle has been determined, probably the first of the year.
  • Standardized Documentation - Jim V.
    • No update
  • Software Licensing - Pat W.
    • There is a problem with one of the license servers, it did not come back on line after the powerdown this past weekend.
    • 6.2 has been released but the license server is not ready to support it. Notification will be sent when it is ready.
  • SLA's Required, Formatting, and Definitions - Jim V., Pat W.
    • Continuing to work with Facilities and Security.
    • Markus and Jim will try to spend some time on the CISL SLA's.
  • Web Conferencing - Mic S.
    • The RFI responses have been sent to the evaluation team, Mic has not followed up with them. Group discussion with evaluators will take place within the next month.
  • ACCIS Web Site- Markus S.
    • No update.
  • ACCIS Member List-
    • No changes.
  • Future Agenda Items-
    • There seems to be various version windows testing going on, testing for specific needs. A means of communicating the various tests should be developed. This would provide more information for better evaluations and purchasing. Not sure how to address this, but there is a need. Sounds like this should be done on the wiki. Most people don't speak up or communicate once the testing has been done. Maybe have one person compile emails from testers and post an organized review. Just think about it over the next month. Wiki, email, or meetings are about the only way to do this. Wendy has a site on the cit if you have something that would like to be posted until a wiki site can be set up. Where would the wiki live? A Sys Admin type wiki would be nice.
    • Markus; -ESMF has asked that email archives be searchable. WEG is taking a look at options. He believes that public lists should be searched by Google and internal information searched by Verity, the really do not want to add another search engine. No comments from the group.
    • Each month talk briefly about MS upcoming events.
  • Additional Discussion-
    • None
  • Action Item List-
    • Jim will send out a statement in Today to announce the Vista and 07 is not supported.
    • Wendy will send out a note to sys admins about sus and new product support.
    • Pat will gather the information from previous Directory Service discussions and organize what has been done.
